Social Media Revolution

As Facebook and other big social media sites lean more towards being an editor instead of a platform, I’ve been on the hunt for other places to interact with my Ragamuffin peeps. I have found several alternatives that I enjoy, and I think you guys will too.

I won’t be leaving Facebook, but I think it is important to know what else is out there–especially since this latest Facebook notification.

What does this mean? Well, Facebook is saying they can shut down your account or limit your access for any reason. Any reason, whether it is justified or not. They are in full control, and you will have little to no recourse to resolve the issue. So, just in case you find yourself without a Facebook account, (either by choice or force) you won’t have to worry about missing out on the Ragamuffin community we have worked so hard to build.

Here’s the rundown on these alternative social media platforms:

MeWe‘s set up is very similar to the way Facebook is set up. You have your own profile, can join groups, and can create groups, but it also has a nice chat option with in the groups. I like MeWe as an alternative to Facebook, and I hope to see the MeWe sewing community grow. I am cordially inviting you all to come see for yourself.

Parler is very similar to Twitter. The concept is the same, except you are given 1,000 character to express your thoughts vs. 280 on twitter. I like this feature much better because you can be more exact with your thoughts without sacrificing grammar or spelling.

Telegram is very different from all other platforms. It is an old-school style chat room. This is a fun alternative to all other social media platforms. It’s an easy way to chat and share your Ragamuffin Pattern creations with others.

Once you join the channel, you can search for the chat group: Ragamuffin Patterns Chat.

Now that you know about all these other social media platforms, I hope you
take a few minutes to check them out. In addition to these other social media outlets, don’t forget to sign up for my newsletter. Even with all the social media in the world, notifications can sometimes be troublesome and you may not always see the most up-to-date information. But if you subscribe to my newsletter, you will get weekly updates on all things Ragamuffin Pattern, as well as a kick-ass 15% subscriber discount!

It is so important that we are able to share our creations, get help when we need it, give encouragement and helpful critiques, and interact with others who enjoy sewing. These platforms have made a once solitary and isolating craft into a community with of thousands of sewists. For me, that is my favorite part, being able to build friendships with other sewist I would most likely never in a million years get to meet.
